My name’s Vicky Margari and I’m a business English trainer.
I offer online and blended lessons, one-to-one, or in small groups of up to 4 people.
I also design tailor-made, in-company courses for all industries and sectors in the provinces of Vicenza, Padova, and Treviso, Italy.
In addition, I prepare students for the Cambridge examinations: B2 First and C1 Advanced.
During my career so far, I’ve taught and tutored in Greece and Italy.
I’ve also taught online students from all around the world.
I have a BA in French Language and Literature from the National Kapodistrian University of Athens.
I also hold Cambridge DELTA Modules One and Three (with a Blended Learning specialism) and the Cert IBET (Certificate in International Business English Training).
I speak 4 languages fluently and can communicate sufficiently in 2 more.
I believe in continual professional development, and, for that reason, I am always studying and preparing for a new certification. Currently, I am preparing for Cambridge Delta Module Two.
Before relocating to Italy, I worked for 12 years in hotels and resorts in Greece and France.
I trained and mentored hotel staff in English for hospitality, as well as in delivering consistently excellent customer service.
Before that, I had worked for 8 years as an insurance agent and broker.
I have always enjoyed working with people and helping them improve their lives and experiences.
Whether selling them an insurance policy, advancing their insurance claim, recommending places to visit and things to do, optimizing their holidays, or helping them get a language certificate, I have always been in the trenches, giving my all.
I volunteer as a media coordinator for IATEFL BESIG (Business English Special Interest Group). I am also a member of IATEFL LTSIG (Learning Technologies Special Interest Group) and IATEFL PRONSIG (Pronunciation Special Interest Group). Joining IATEFL was the best decision I took in 2020 for my continuing professional development and the numerous networking opportunities.
Volunteering is my passion, so I also help in the facilitation of the online Diversophy® cultural competence games. Diversophy® is a powerful game that helps you interact with people from other backgrounds and cultures while exploring your own. Join us every Thursday to play with us and be part of this wonderful growing community of diverse people. Attendance is open and free to all. Follow this link to register for the following sessions.
In 2021, I volunteered as a teaching assistant for a great Erasmus+ project, the CATAPULT (Computer Assisted Training and Platforms to Upskill LSP Teachers). Their free and open to all MOOC offers training in Needs Analysis, Corpora, student engagement, and ePortfolios. I am also a member of their CoP, LinguaCoP.
It is this combination of academic background and hands-on experience that has influenced my teaching methods and approaches.
I believe, above all, that language is communication. Therefore, my lessons place a priority on communicative achievement.
At the same time, I make sure my lessons are engaging and practical, aiming for students to be able to apply what is learned immediately in real life.
I use a variety of materials, printed and digital, authentic listening and video samples of spoken English, roleplays, simulations, games, and more.
I offer extended support for extra writing and reading activities in my Virtual Classroom, freely accessible to all my students, at their own time and pace.
